Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh on what to expect ahead of the long-awaited fourth and final season…

-

What’s happening with Villanelle and Eve? JODIE COMER, 28: Villanelle has found an unlikely place to settle. We see her in a church, and she has her sights set on finding something new for herself. She’s trying to find her freedom, she’s back to being a lone wolf again.

SANDRA OH, 50: A lot has shifted for Eve. Her attitude to what she’s been searching for and chasing has changed, she’s not scared any more.

Why do you think people love Villanelle so much?

JODIE: Because they know they shouldn’t. That’s attractive and feels naughty. She’s very free and liberated, in the sense that she doesn’t care about what people think and they can live vicariously through her in that way.

This is the final season…

JODIE: It felt bittersweet to be shooting it. We wanted to stay true to the characters, and hopefully give people a satisfying ending. It’s sad to think that we’re not going to be coming back next year, but I’m a big believer in leaving something while it’s good.

SANDRA: I hope the fans simply enjoy themselves and enjoy the way that we’ve brought Eve and Villanelle to a close.

Favourite filming moments? JODIE: We were filming on a boat and we got the giggles because there was lots of wind, and it was very James Bond. But then when we did the close-ups, the boat had to move slowly, so there was no wind in my hair – but we had to act like it was going fast, which was absurd and hilarious. We’ve had lots of silly moments like that.

SANDRA: Eve does a bunch of things that we haven’t seen her do before, and my clothes are better. I was so jealous of Villanelle and Carolyn’s [Fiona Shaw] wardrobes!

Villanelle’s wardrobe is amazing. JODIE: I get to come to set and wear the most amazing outfits and play around. What I love about her is that comfort is key, very much like myself, even though she’s way more stylish than I am.

Sandra, does Eve stray from her usual parka?

SANDRA: Oh, I’m still wearing the green parka and a polo neck, because I love them, and I’ve become quite attached to them. There are a few scenes where you’ll see Eve wearing something crazy, but it works for the scene. Jodie, what does Villanelle mean to you?

JODIE: She means the world to me. I remember how happy and elated I was when I got this role, but realising I then had to do the work. It was so exciting, and all very new. To think now it’s coming to an end… She gave me a fearlessness and a resilience. I always got to come to set, do the most outrageous things, have a laugh, and lose myself. I’m so grateful for that opportunity. Your favourite thing this season? JODIE: Getting to act with Fiona Shaw, those were some of the best days I’ve ever had on set. We couldn’t do one shot because we were laughing so hard, the tears were literally dripping off my chin. We’re children when we get together, and that was so joyous. What can fans expect?

SANDRA: I hope fans get from season four the excitement of how the characters change and deepen. It’s been a tough shoot, and a deeply satisfying one. We did our best to honour Eve and Villanelle, and I hope our fans enjoy it.
