AGE-DEFYING STARS
These stunning celebs prove age is just a number as they enjoy the summer
PENELOPE CRUZ
Looking gorgeous and relaxed in a neon orange swimsuit accessorised with a pair of gold hoops, sea-tousled hair and sunglasses, Penelope Cruz emulated beach-side chic when she was photographed holidaying with her family in Portofino, Italy.
The Pirates Of The Caribbean actress, 48, who is married to fellow actor Javier Bardem, has always been refreshingly open about her diet and fitness routine, which involves dancing and Bikram yoga, and a Mediterranean diet, consisting of “lots of fruits, vegetables, and quality protein from free-range animals”.
Trained as a dancer from a young age, mum-of-two Penelope – who avoids sugar and gluten – says the discipline is “really hard but much more fun” than pounding a treadmill, and says her 90-minute yoga classes – which involve working out in a room of 40 degrees – are like “magic” for beating sluggishness.
DEMI MOORE
The Ghost star has candidly spoken out about suffering with an eating disorder for five years in the ’90s and says her determination to “look good” in her films led to an obsession with dieting and fitness. It even saw her unable to breastfeed her daughter, Scout, due to not having enough fat in her milk, and later suffering with pneumonia.
Now, as she approaches her 60th birthday in November, the Striptease actress, who posed nude last year, three decades after her iconic pregnant cover shoot, appeared at ease and oozed confidence when she posed in a hot-pink bikini while holidaying on board a yacht last week.
The mother-of-two says she prefers dancing to strict workouts, and follows a diet of raw foods, believing it prolongs youth and fights disease.
JENNIFER ANISTON
She rose to fame on sitcom Friends in the ’90s, and last week Jennifer Aniston proved she’s just as gorgeous three decades later when she took to Instagram to post a series of throwback snaps from her recent holiday. Wearing a mismatched bikini, sunglasses and a straw sun hat, the 53-year-old actress happily showed off her toned legs and stomach.
Jennifer admits she works hard on her health and fitness. Starting her day with warm water and lemon followed by a smoothie or avocado and eggs, Jennifer follows the 16:8 fast (which involves, for her, not eating a meal from 6pm-10am) and avoids processed food and sugars. A spokesperson for collagen supplements – which she mixes into her morning coffee – Jennifer also works out five days a week, and loves yoga, boxing, strength training, climbing classes on her step-trainer, spinning and running.
KATE BECKINSALE
Kate Beckinsale dazzled in glittering sunnies and a green bikini while showing off her jewellery on Instagram last week.
The actress, 49, who famously wore a catsuit for her 2003 film,
Underworld, has admitted her lean shape doesn’t come without sacrifice and says she works out six days a week and follows a restrictive diet. Mixing cardio workouts with kickboxing, circuits and strength training, her trainer says they “push, push, push” for an hour, and Kate reveals she barely ever lets up her regime.
Along with ditching alcohol, Kate sticks to a diet of mostly protein and veg – starting her day with a green juice, a salad wrap for lunch, and fresh meat or fish with steamed veg and lentils or beans for dinner.
CAROL VORDERMAN
Fans have praised Carol Vorderman’s contribution to breaking down age barriers and encouraging women to embrace their sex appeal and wear bikinis way into their 60s and beyond. And last week, the former Countdown host and mathematician, 61, practised what she preaches while posing in a sporty leopard-print two-piece while enjoying a pool party at a health retreat in Portugal.
A fan of intermittent fasting and two detoxes a year, Carol opts for yoghurt with fruit and nuts for breakfast, followed by a tuna nicoise salad with eggs for lunch, and a healthy meal rich in protein, like liver and onion or mussels for dinner.
The star also recommends a dollop of butter in black coffee, and enjoys hiking and paddle boarding close to her home in Wales.
