Aspiring drag queens Adam Woodyatt and Simon Gregson, and panellists Mel C and Rob Beckett

-

Why did you decide to take part? ADAM, 54: I want to try to push myself – and I think I’m going to have that challenge when I attempt to become a drag queen.

SIMON, 48: Well, I have been known to don ladies’ clothes in the past for a bit of a giggle, but I’ve never done anything serious, so this is the first time.

Are you nervous?

ADAM: What can possibly go wrong? Well, I can forget my lines for one. I could trip over the dress. I could trip over my heels and my wig could fall over my eyes.

SIMON: It’s very, very nervewracking. When I get up on stage, there’s a couple of things that could go wrong. I could fall off my heels and do myself a huge injury because I’m not built for falling over. Secondly, I could forget the lines and then I’m going to have to ad lib my way out of it and hope that the lines come to me. It’s terrifying!

Mel and Rob, are you excited to be a part of the panel?

MEL C, 48: I’m honoured. I’ve been lucky enough to work with drag queens in my career and, honestly, it’s the most joyous thing you can do. I am so excited to see what the night holds. ROB, 36: I’m buzzing. We’ve got six talented celebrities about to transform themselves into their drag alter egos. I performed drag once and my name was Rusty Beaver Toothy Diva.

I was very proud of my drag performance.

What do you love about drag? ROB: I love the outfits. I love the hair. I love the brashness of it. I love the freedom of it. I think in drag you can do and say whatever you want, to a point, and I love that. As a comedian that’s the dream, isn’t it?
