5 MINUTES WITH...

Comedian and The Masked Dancer judge Mo Gilligan, 34, returning to host The BRIT Awards for a second time – presenting from London’s 02 Arena…

How does it feel to be back? Hosting last year was one of the most phenomenal moments of my life – I’m looking forward to getting back and doing it all again, it feels like a massive honour. Favourite moments from 2022? The opening was awesome.

How Ed Sheeran came out, with people doing backflips and stuff [the singer opened the show with an amped-up version of Bad Habits]. I was like, “Woah, it’s me who’s introducing him? Is this really happening?!” That was a moment I’ll never forget. How do you prepare to go on stage?

I’m quite chilled, but I like to take five minutes to read my script one last time. Though you can practise as much as you like, it doesn’t count for anything. Once it goes out live, anything can happen! It’s a really fun gig to do. It takes a ton of amazing people to make an awards show and literally to be part of that is an incredible feeling… it took me about a week to take it all in! What will be different this time? The tables are back in the arena! We don’t have to be restrained, and there will be a lot more people in the room. I can move around more, I can chat more, and the lovely people at home can have a bit more chaos – I think this year will be hectic! Do you have any backstage demands?

Nothing too showbiz just yet. I got fruit and water and that’s me, man. And Haribo, nothing fancy.

Are you ‘tuxedo ready’?

I do have a few tuxs now, I have to be prepared at any time, any moment, any place, because I never know where I might have to host something, yeah. Whether it’s The BRITs, Summer Space Jam Festival, you name it, I am tuxedo ready!
