Aldi seeks new sites

-

ALDI is calling on West Dunbartonshire residents to have their say on any locations where they would like to see a new store.

The supermarket giant has launched a nationwide initiative to pinpoint prime spots for new branch openings.

The areas which have the most suggestions will then be considered as part of the company’s commitment to building hundreds of new stores across Britain.

Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: “We want to make high-quality food accessible to all, but there are still some areas that either don’t have an Aldi or have potential for more stores.

“We’ve identified some key places where there is demand for more stores already, but now we are calling on the public to share their views.

“This will be used to help inform our property search over the coming years.”

The UK’s fourth-biggest supermarket says it has been on a rapid expansion drive in recent years and has seen its popularity soar as shoppers switch to it for its “lower prices” and “great quality” amid the cost-of-living crisis.

The retailer currently has more than 1,000 stores including one in

West Dunbartonshire at the Kilbowie retail park in Clydebank – and is committed to continuing towards its long-term target of more than 1,500 stores across the UK.

Some areas in Scotland that have already been identified by the supermarket as places requiring new stores include Cathcart and Springburn in Glasgow, Clarkston, Glasgow Fort, Bonnyrigg, Barnton in Edinburgh, Blantyre, Newhouse, Dumbarton and Ladysmill in Falkirk.

Those wanting to put their town forward to be considered should contact the supermarket by emailing NextNewStore@Aldi.co.uk, clearly stating their postcode and why they believe their area needs a new Aldi store.

Aldi is asking for suggestions to be submitted by May 31, with the supermarket planning to update customers on the results and its latest priority ‘wish list’ later this year.

CLYDEBANK FC marked 20 years of fan ownership with a charity match last weekend.

The fixture also honoured the 2003/04 Central Division Two League champions, who lined up against the 2011/12 Central League winners.

The 03/04 side, which was led by Budgie McGhie, featured Mark Hailstones, Davie Harris and Davie Reid while the 11/12 side had Budgie’s no 2 at the time Stuart Allison featuring alongside Darian MacKinnon and current manager Gordon Moffat.

It was the 11/12 team who ran out 6-1 winners in the match at Holm Park.

The sides wore special tops for the fixture supplied by match sponsors Pitch Teamwear and the match-worn jerseys remain available for purchase.

All proceeds will go to local charities, including the entry donation that was in place at the gate.
