Newlyn School of Art is a leading provider of outdoor landscape painting courses, taught on the dramatic coastline of West Cornwall by many of the most respected artists working in Cornwall today. Artists first came to Newlyn in the mid-1880s with over 130 artists working in the fishing village between 1880 and 1900. Artist Stanhope Forbes is considered to be the ‘Father’ of the Newlyn School of Painters, as he was a key figure in the group and set up his own art school to invigorate the artistic colony in 1899.

Chapel House has six beautiful lightfilled rooms offering panoramic views across Penzance harbour over to St Michael’s Mount shimmering in Mount’s Bay, and south to Lizard Point and Mousehole. Built in 1790, the building has been home to several notable figures, including Admiral Samuel Hood Linzee of HMS Temeraire, the Battle of Trafalgar ship made famous by JMW Turner’s iconic painting The Fighting Temeraire.
