FOR FREEDOM AND HONOUR'.

-

The florin's design changed at the start of George V's reign, and Britannia was restricted to the three bronze coins, penny, halfpenny and farthing, with no change in their styles.

None of Edward VIII's coins were ever issued for Britain. The designs which had been prepared for his bronze coins were the same as those used for George VI coinage. A very small number of pattern coins are known to exist, but are very rare.

Under George VI,

Britannia was further restricted to the penny, but she was resculptured, got a wider shield, and the lighthouse made its re-appearance. The ship made it onto the reverse design of the halfpenny, with a few waves, but Britannia ruled no more on this particular coin.

Bringing us up to the present day monarch, the predecimal pennies of Elizabeth II used the same designs as for George VI, and no other denominations featured Britannia after the last penny was issued in 1967, and a proof version in the ‘Farewell to £sd' set.
