THE HOGWARTS EXPRESS 50p
The final individual collectable 50p coin bearing the portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was the Harry Potter coin featuring an image of The Hogwarts Express.
The Hogwarts Express 50p is part of a larger Harry Potter collection celebrating 25 years since J.K. Rowling’s novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was first published in the UK by Bloomsbury Publishing. The coins in the collection will feature a different image from the popular novels. We’ve already had Harry Potter and the Hogwarts Express, and Professor Dumbledore and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry are set to be seen on their own individual coin later this year.
The Royal Mint’s Harry Potter collection will be one of a small number that will see a change of portrait during the series. The first two coins in the collection will feature the portrait of Her Late Majesty, and the final two coins will feature the official portrait of King Charles III. This change of portrait during the series is a rare occasion, and many believe the set will be highly collectable as a result.
The designs are available on a range of denominations, including the 50p, and all four coins have been modelled by Ffion Gwillim at The Royal Mint, and recreate the work of Jim Kay, the artist who created the first fully illustrated edition of this Harry Potter story.
