New Star Wars Range

-

In time for Star Wars Day on ‘May the 4th’, The Royal Mint has launched its latest Star Wars range of coins. Following the success of its first Star Wars coin series, Series 2 is dedicated to the franchise’s iconic vehicles, with the first coin in the new four-coin series depicting the Millennium Falcon. One of the most recognised and celebrated vehicles in the Star Wars galaxy, the Millennium Falcon has played a role in some of the greatest victories of the Rebel Alliance and the New Republic. Other coins launching in 2024 will highlight a TIE Fighter, X-Wing and Death Star II.

Combining traditional minting techniques with modern technology, The Royal Mint’s craftspeople have faithfully reproduced the Star Wars vehicles for the first time on official UK coins. Designed by Ffion Gwillim, collectors and fans will enjoy the coin’s unique lenticular feature, depicting a silhouette of the Millennium Falcon and the Rebel Alliance ‘Starbird’ symbol. The lenticular feature, which tilts in the light to reveal symbols, demonstrates The Royal Mint’s specialised striking techniques. An advanced picosecond laser was used to imprint the intricate designs onto the coin-making tools to ensure accuracy.

In addition to the new 50p series, The Royal Mint are releasing their first bullion bars inspired by the Star Wars galaxy. The two-part series of minted investment bullion-bars feature comic-style illustrations, including the heroic Jedi and the sinister Sith. Available in fine gold and silver editions, the first design features three legendary forces of good – Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo.

The Millennium Falcon 50p coin comes in a variety of finishes, including gold proof, silver proof, brilliant uncirculated and coloured.
