Monty Python and Meccano
Imust confess that I was unaware of Monty Python collectables. But the recent Auction Centre event featured some 1/6 scale (12 inch) action figures from Sideshow Collectibles. In all, there were 14 figures, of which 13 were in original display boxes. They included The Knight Who Says Ni, King Arthur, Patsy (his horse!), The Dead Collector, The French Taunter and Tim The Enchanter. An eclectic lot of irreverent nonsense, they sold for £360.
More down to earth was the unboxed and part-built Meccano No2 Constructor Car in blue and cream with parts of an instruction leaflet, all contained in a vintage cake tin. It wasn’t checked for completeness but the main components were present. Always a collectable model, this realised £460.
Something for the ladies: a limited edition Annette Himstedt Kinder doll entitled llai was fitted with glass eyes and boasted real hair. With certificate, and contained in her original box and outer card box, she stood approximately 90cm tall and was bid to £480.
Another Annette Himstedt Kinder lot was the limited edition dressed doll pair entitled Liska & Lotta. Again with glass eyes and real hair and certificate, the dolls appeared to be in mint condition and raised £320.
More (£650, in fact) was needed to take home the BC8 Mammoth 1/12 Scale 8x8 Off Road Military Truck with Croosrc T247 Transporter Trailer. Hugely impressive, this model featured much metal, was equipped with a sound system and even ran on foam filled tyres. A built up Tamiya 1/14 scale RC Mercedes-Benz Actros 3363 6x4 3 axle truck and Intercontinental Express Trailer also did well. A highly detailed model, it measured over a metre in length with its trailer. It was sold (albeit without a transmitter/control unit) for £340. ■
