Meccano car stars at BTA

-

British Toy Auctions held another successful sale in December and the event included the inevitable Star Wars theme – can any auction be held without one or more carded figures appearing, one wonders?

The Kenner The Power of the Force Han Solo (in a Carbonite Chamber), was dated 1984, and he was on a 92 card back, which was punched. The whole was contained within a Star Case and it made £360 plus premium.

More traditional, though, was the Meccano No 2 Constructor Car, resplendent in red with blue mudguards and seat. The headlamps, windscreen and original driver were all still in place, although the tyres had become hard and cracked and exhibited some small glue repairs to keep them together. The original Meccano logo was still on the tail and the clockwork motor was working, although there was no key supplied with the car. In good condition overall, it drove off to achieve £550.

Batman still rules when it comes to desirable toys, and the Corgi 40 Batman Batmobile, with the Batboat on a trailer and Batcopter set, complete with Batman (but missing Robin) proved the point. Equipped with 12 unused missiles and in near mint condition, the whole was set off by an excellent box. Small (Boy) wonder that it went to a new home for £460 plus premium.

More up to date was the Nintendo Game Boy, this an example of a Nintendo Game Boy Color, which amazingly was still factory sealed. Hard to evaluate this kind of thing, perhaps, but there was plenty of interest (from gamers?), and it closed on a creditable £550. ■
