Whenever you open Google Photos, you’ll see all the photos and videos saved to your account (with the most recent shown at the top). If you want some photos to stay private, so other people can’t see them when you pass your phone around, use the new Archive feature. Bear in mind that archived photos will still appear within any albums you’ve added them to and in your search results.

To use the feature, open Google Photos (Android www.snipca.com/24741; IOS www.snipca.com/24742), then tap and hold the first photo or video you want to archive until a tick appears on it (and tick boxes appear on all the other files). Tick to select all the files you want to archive, tap the three dots at the top right, tap Archive (see screenshot below left), then tap Done. To view your archived files, tap the menu icon (three lines) at the top left, then Archive.

All IOS devices have a great Magnifier tool that lets you use the camera on your device to zoom in to hard-to-read print in newspapers, magazines or books. You first need to enable the feature. Open Settings, tap General, Accessibility, Magnifier, then switch on both sliders in this section.

To magnify something, press the Home button three times to activate your device’s Magnifier tool. Tap the zoom slider at the bottom to zoom in and out of whatever you’re reading. If you find it difficult to keep your hand steady when reading your magnified text, tap the lock icon at the bottom left. This focuses your camera on the text your pointing at.

Tap the icon with three circles at the bottom right (see screenshot above) to adjust the brightness and contrast using sliders. The tabs at the top (White/blue, Yellow/blue and so on) let you add different filters which may help you view the item better.
