Why can’t my computer run Windows 11?
Is the Windows 11 Q update tool wrong or is there a mistake in the list of supported processors? My Lenovo Ideapad 500 laptop has an Intel Core i7-6500u processor. Microsoft’s PC Health Check tool ( www.snipca.com/m//38799) ) told me my processor iss not supported. However, it appears as compatible on the approved-processor list.stt.
My PC received a greenn pass mark for every otherthher test. I queried this withh Microsoft’s support, bututu the silence has been deafening.ening.ning. What’s going on here?? Gary Owens
We’re afraid that, at the time A of this issue going to print, your processor is not compatible with Windows 11.
You sent us a screenshotscreee (see above) off a Mimicrosoftft supportt page listing your processor as compatible. However, if you look closely at the image, you’ll see that the address bar at the top shows you were actually looking at the list of supported processors for Windows 10 version 20H2 – not Windows 11. We don’t know how you ended up on this page, but it seems this is what convinced you that your processor is compatible with the new operating system, when in fact it isn’t.
The list of Intel processors that Windows 11 supports is at www.snipca.com/40360. Your computer’s i7-6500u processor is not on the list, because Microsoft currently supports only 8th-generation Intel processors or later, and yours is a 6th-generation chip (as indicated by the ‘6’ after ‘i7’). We say ‘currently’ because the list has changed before and is likely to change again – so it’s too soon to say for certain. However, as far as we know, Microsoft has no plans to support 6th-generation Intel processors.
