Make raffle tickets using Word templates

-

Araffle is a brilliant way to raise money for your club or a good cause. You can buy generic books of tickets from any stationers, but for a more personal touch, why not create your own tickets using a Word template? We’ll explain how here.

Pick and create a template

Launch Word and, from the homepage (which appears before you open a document), search for raffle in the ‘Search for online templates’ box at the top. Select ‘Raffle tickets’ to download a page of tickets. You can then customise them, adding your own details.

Editing the key information is easy, because anything you type into the ticket at the top of the page automatically appears in the others. For example, double-click ‘[NAME OF RAFFLE EVENT’] ( 1 in the screenshot below) then type the name and date of your event. Click the white space outside the ticket, and Word will update the other tickets with your new name and date.

Repeat the process for the prizes section beneath. If you want to list prizes other than cash, you may find that the font is too big to fit enough text in. If so, click Home, right-click the style for Prize Value 2 , then select Modify. Choose a font size that’s smaller than the default 19 3

- you can also change the font if you like - then click OK at the bottom. Your changes will appear in every ticket.

Next, decide whether you want to edit, or delete the line ‘DRAWING WILL BE

HELD AT THE END OF THE NIGHT’. If you change this, you’ll have to repeat the process on each ticket individually. The same goes for the line at the bottom: ‘DO NOT HAVE TO BE PRESENT TO WIN / DONATION - $10’.

Update ticket numbers automatically

By default, Word won’t update the ticket numbers automatically. To make this happen, we need to add a field that assigns each ticket number. Double-click to select the first ticket number (‘0001’ in the top left - 1 in screenshot above). Then select Insert 2 , Quick Parts 3 , Field, and choose Seq from the ‘Field names’ list on the left 4 . In the ‘Field codes’ box that appears type SEQ ticket \n \# "0000" 5 .

This code tells Word to use Seq (sequence), which automatically changes the ticket number in increments. Typing ticket helps Word keep track of the previous number. Typing \n tells

Word to increase the number. Finally, \# "0000" tells Word that we want to see all four digits, so we’d get ‘0001’ not ‘1’, for example. Click OK when you’re done.

Now, select the same first number on the left of the ticket by doubleclicking it. Copy it, then paste it in place of the ticket numbers on the left (from 0002 to 0005). As you paste, you’ll see that every ticket has the number ‘0001’don’t worry, we’ll fix that later.

Next, select the ticket number at the top right, and use the Insert option to add a field, as you did before. Select ‘Seq’, but this time enter the command SEQ ticket \c \# "0000". This does more or less the same thing as above, but typing \c tells Word to reuse the number it just used, so the same number appears on both halves of your ticket. Copy and paste this field into all the numbers on the right.

Again, all the numbers will be the same at the moment. Press CTRL+A to select all your tickets, then F9 to refresh the numbers. Now you should see numbers 0001 to 0005. You may need to press your Fn key to make F9 work - see Microsoft’s instructions at www.snipca.com/40646.

So far, we only have five tickets. To make more, press CTRL+A to select all, CTRL+C to copy them, then CTRL+V to paste them into your document. Repeat this until you have enough tickets. Then press CTRL+A to select them all, followed by F9 to update the numbers - giving you tickets 0006 and above. You can now print your tickets.
