Create links for Whatsapp voice and video calls
Whatsapp has made it easier to invite people to join voice and video calls, by sending them a link to the chat. To generate a link, simply tap the Calls tab in the app and select ‘Create call link’. By default, Whatsapp will create a link to a video call, but you can change this to a voice call by tapping ‘Call type’
( 1 in our screenshot below) and choosing that option.
Press ‘Send link via Whatsapp’ 2 and select the contacts you want to invite to the group call. This will send them a message containing the linklink, which they can tap to join the video or voice call. Alternatively, choose ‘Copy link’ to copy the link to your clipboard or ‘Share link’ to send the link through a different app – it will still open the Whatsapp call when tapped.
Every time you create a call link, the URL will be different and contain 22 characters so that nobody can guess it – blocked users won’t be able to use the link. Call links expire automatically if unused after 90 days.
All Whatsapp calls are end-to-end encrypted so uninvited guests can’t intercept them, but it’s advisable to only share links with people you trust. You can invite up to 32 users to join a group voice or video call.
