Update your Lenovo laptop now to fix security flaw

-

Lenovo has released emergency updates for many of its best-selling laptops, after flaws were detected that can allow hackers to deactivate the UEFI Secure Boot.

This is a part of your computer that stops malware running during the boot process, before the operating system has loaded.

All the affected laptops are from the company’s Ideapad, Thinkbook and Yoga ranges, and include both Windows 10 and 11 machines.

To check whether your laptop needs updating, you need to know its model number – find this by typing system information in the Start menu, clicking Open, then looking next to ‘System Model’.

To fix the flaw, Lenovo recommends using its Vantage tool for updating system drivers, available to download from www.snipca.com/44041.

Alternatively, update your laptop manually by visiting www.snipca.com/44030, then scrolling down and looking for your laptop in the Product Impact table. If it’s there, look in the Component column and make a note of the update that needs to be applied (they all begin with ‘BIOS Update’).

Also look at the two columns on the right and make a note of the version number of the download(s) you’ll need to install – these all end with WW.

Next, visit https://pcsupport. lenovo.com, then type your laptop model in the search box and click the result that appears. On the next page, click ‘Drivers & Software’ in the left-hand menu, then the Manual Update tab followed by BIOS/UEFI.

Now look for and click the BIOS Update you noted down earlier ( 1 in our screenshot), then check that the Version number listed 2 is the same download code you made a note of earlier. Finally, click the Download icons 3 , then save and run the file.
