Can I increase Microsoft Money’s font size?

-

QAs a subscriber, I learn something new in every issue, and note how you clear up so many problems. So, I’m hoping you can point me in the right direction. I’ve used Microsoft Money for many years, but currently have a problem with the font size, which on my system is very small. I have had no success in my efforts to increase it. Can you assist? AYou may be aware that Microsoft abandoned Money more than a decade ago, and that it is no longer supported. The program does not have an ability to increase its font size.

While some versions of Money can be made to work in Windows 10 or 11 – as you evidently have managed – this is rarely achieved without compromise. The trouble here is that Money was designed for a time when resolutions were lower than those delivered by modern screens. So, when a lowresolution program is displayed on a high-resolution screen, everything looks smaller.

We don’t believe Windows 10 and 11’s scaling tools will help, but you might as well try them. To do this in either Windows 10 or 11, first right-click any blank part of the desktop and choose ‘Display settings’. Next, under ‘Scale & layout’, open the dropdown menu and choose a percentage higher than 100.

What will almost certainly work is to lower the resolution Windows itself uses, though this will make everything else you do look over-sized. However, it’s easy to do and, if you’re using Money only occasionally, you could simply apply this technique when needed – reverting to the usual (higher) resolution when you’re finished with Money.

Again, right-click the desktop and choose ‘Display settings’, but this time, next to ‘Display resolution’, open the dropdown menu and choose a Microsoft Money-era resolution, such as 1024x768 (see screenshot).
