Disguise your email address in Firefox

-

Firefox for Android (www.snipca. com/45135) is one of the few mobile browsers that lets you install add-ons – as you can with its desktop counterpart. The latest version of the app (110) adds support for four more extensions that bring useful new features to Firefox on your phone or tablet.

The most notable addition is Mozilla’s Firefox Relay add-on, which lets you disguise your email address when you sign up with websites, to protect it from spammers and scammers. It works by generating fake email addresses called ‘email masks’, which forward messages to your real inbox without compromising your privacy.

Tap the three-dot menu and select Add-ons, then tap the plus sign next to Firefox Relay and choose Add. Tap ‘Okay, Got it’ to confirm the installation. Next, tap the tabs icon in the bottom-right corner of the app and select the Firefox Relay tab. Press ‘Sign Up/in’ and sign into your Firefox account, or sign up for one if you don’t already have one.

Once you’re signed in, you’ll be taken to the Firefox Relay dashboard, where you can create and manage your email masks. Tap the blue ‘Generate new mask’ button to create an email mask that can be copied to your clipboard. Alternatively, when you register with a website, tap the purple Firefox Relay icon in the email address box ( 1 in our screenshot left) and choose ‘Generate new mask’ 2 to select an existing mask or create a new one.

The free version of Firefox Relay lets you create five email masks. For unlimited masks, you need to upgrade to Relay Premium for 99p a month, which offers extra options including the ability to reply to forwarded messages and block promotional emails.

The other three new add-ons for Firefox for Android are Tampermonkey, Cleanurls and Read Aloud. We’ll take a closer look at these in our next issue.
