Arson investigation after van is torched

»» AN arson investigation has been launched after a van fire during the early hours of Sunday.

Multiple 999 calls were made reporting a van on fire in Trevarthian Road in St Austell at about 2.50am.

One fire crew from St Austell was sent to the scene.

A statement from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters, some wearing breathing apparatus, used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.

“Arson is suspected as the cause of the fire and Devon and Cornwall Police have been informed. Cornwall Council’s highways department also attended to clear up a fuel spillage and broken glass that was a hazard to pedestrians on a main route into town.

“If anyone has information as to who may have started this fire, please contact Devon and Cornwall Police, quoting log number 142 of May 5.”
