THE JEANIUS Go red, without looking like Ronald McDonald

Amy Bannerman on how to wear red and not look like Ronald McDonald

OK, let’s get real. Some days you just want to blend into the crowd in black. Other days, it’s fun to scream, “LOOK AT ME!” On these occasions, wear red jeans – AKA the jeans that say ‘I have a smokin’ hot date tonight’ or ‘I just got a promotion.’

This Insider Crop pair by Mother are the perfect example of modern coloured denim: they’re ripped and cropped – the ideal length for showing off sandals or summer boots. Bliss And Mischief has an amazing wide-leg sailor jean, which feels very retro. They’re long, so wear them with a heel to look like Elle Macpherson (maybe).

But what the F do you style them with? I have actually lost sleep over this but, panic not, I have had an ephipany: either wear them toned down with a blazer and blue shirt, or go full-on rock and (just) roll(ed out of bed). And if wearing a bright jean feels a bit scary, then try wearing a skinny pair (Sandro does a good one) with an oversized man’s shirt. My perennial is a classic blue-and-white-striped buttondown by Ralph Lauren.

I like wearing variations of the shade to make it all feel more pulled together. And if you’re feeling really wild, clash them with something pink, à la Gucci. Anything vaguely Gucci can never be a bad thing.
