And you thought heaving your weekly shop home was hard…

THE SPARTAN DEATH RACE

Clue: it’s got the word ‘death’ in the title. With obstacles including, but not limited to, running with a rock-filled bucket, crawling under barbed wire and hoisting yourself along a rope. And at the finish line? You get to leap over a wall of flames. ‘Feeling the burn’ indeed.

RED BULL NEPTUNE STEPS

Swimming against the tide for 420 metres wasn’t enough for the people at Red Bull, whose course also involves climbing 18 metres over seven canal lock gates. Oh, and it’s in Glasgow. So that water’s going to be f*cking freezing. Think we’ll stick to the slow lane at our local lido.

DRAGON’S BACK RACE

A misleading title, as there’s no one to help you along with these five days of castle-to-castle running across the Welsh wilderness (sadly no dragons, either). Runners cover 186 miles, and climb 51,000 feet. Fast? It’ll take eight hours. Slow? It’ll be more like 18. Blister central.
