HEY, HOW DO I WEAR…
The boiler suit?
1 WHY IT WORKS
The humble boiler suit can now be spotted on everyone from hipsters to Hadids. With the right fit and feminine accessories, you’ll be the coolest (and comfiest) girl on the block.
2 SOLE MATES
A heeled and softly pointytoed ankle boot or court makes for the most flattering pairing. The narrowed shape elongates the leg, and the added height will subtly change your posture so that the overall look is more polished than slouchy. Keep the shoe sleek and neutral – stompy flat boots might make you look like you’re on your way to Kwik Fit.
3 CHERRY ON TOP
Accessories make or break your ability to pull off this tricky trend. Baggy boiler suits have oil-splattered, car-garage associations, so make sure your accessories provide a contrast. A beret feels very now (and plays up the military theme), and classic jewellery adds easy chic. Wear with neat hair, a ladylike structured bag and a red lip to look put-together.
4 BEST FIT
It’s meant to be worn baggy, but any more than about three inches of excess fabric on either side of your thigh will leave you looking like a sack of Maris Pipers. Belt the waist if you’re worried, but a loose drop-waist like Sarah’s looks fantastic if the legs are cropped or cuffed, because the fabric skims your tummy, which is surprisingly flattering. Even more slimming: roll up your sleeves and keep a few buttons undone. Showing some skin breaks up the wall of fabric.
