Cliveden House, Buckinghamshire
Cliveden is a beautiful mansion that sits atop a grassy hill. It is the house where a naked encounter in the ’60s between British politician John Profumo and a 19-year-old party girl, Christine Keeler (right), precipitated the fall of the government. And it’s where everyone from Churchill to Roosevelt have partied. Rooms are decadent, but there are modern touches, too. The newly renovated spa is a cool, cream space built around the infamous outdoor pool (where that naked encounter took place). Book in for a Sarah Chapman Skinesis facial. Here on a seduction mission? Take a gin martini in the Library Bar before settling in to the André Garrett restaurant. Need a further recommendation? Meghan Markle stayed here the night before her wedding. From £445 per night; Clivedenhouse.co.uk
