MY CULTURED LIFE Actor Billy Magnussen: man enough to wear women’s trousers

Actor Billy Magnussen shares what’s keeping him entertained this month

-

Last thing you bought? Women’s trousers from Carhartt. They’re really good for riding horses in, which I’ve loved since I was in Into The Woods.

Most recent TV binge session? I’m not a big binger, but The Staircase by JeanXavier de Lestrade on Netflix got me.

Last Google search? I couldn’t tell you, because that’d reveal something very personal about me right now...

Current wallpaper on your phone? A picture of my girl.

What’s on your workout playlist? I actually do Duolingo language courses on the elliptical trainer. I’ve taught myself French that way.

Song that gets you dancing? Come On Eileen – that’s a good one. Also Uptown Funk.

App you can’t live without? Amazon or Google Maps. Go-to takeaway dish? Last night I had a chicken kebab, but it’s often salad. I sometimes have to take my top off for jobs, so if I have pizza every night I’m screwed.

Ever been starstruck? Seven years ago. I was in a play and Bill Irwin [an American vaudeville-style comedian] walked backstage. I grew up watching his clowning, so was I like “holy crap”.

Favourite emoji? The A-OK one.

Last Instagram follow? I’m more of a guy who likes to [follow people’s lives] in real life.

Last thing you do before bed? I listen to the podcast In Our Time.

Last podcast you listened to? The Daily by The New York Times, Pod Save America and TED podcasts.

Last film that made you cry? Pixar’s short film, Bao. But happy stuff makes me cry all the time, like if I see a kid get picked up off the ground after falling over.

Books on your bedside table? Uncommon Type: Some Stories by Tom Hanks. But I just finished Tuesdays With Morrie [by Mitch Albom], and everyone in the world should read that book.

First thing you read in the morning? The New York Times.

Maniac is on Netflix now
