Three minutes for your morning flat white. One hour to catch up on Made In Chelsea. Two days for your ASOS order. Anything worth having in life takes time. But how long does it take to cultivate an important relationship? Science has the answer. New research* has discovered it requires roughly 50 hours of bonding outside the office (over non-workrelated activities – which we’ve taken to mean mojitos, nachos and judging one another’s Tinder matches) to form a friendship with a colleague, and more than 200 to earn the coveted title of “close friend”. As for love, a study has shown that men take, on average, three months to fall in love with a partner, while women take five.† Having to wait eight minutes for an Uber, though? Still outrageous.
