BRUSH BOT
THE BIG IDEA: Brushean (below, right) – an automatic brushcleaning device. WHY IT SOUNDS
EXCITING: A start-up crowdfunded by beauty enthusiasts, the Brushean has caused quite a stir across the pond. On the outside, it looks a bit like a vase from Oliver Bonas, but inside, it conceals something of a much higher spec. Press the lid down and stealthy UV-C sterilising technology claims to kill 99.9% of bacteria living between your bristles in five minutes flat.
WHAT IT ACTUALLY
DOES: UV-C (the rays destroy microorganisms) has been used to sterilise equipment in hospitals and salons for more than 50 years.
WORTH IT? At $135 (around £103), this is not a cheap dressingtable accessory. The light kills bacteria, but you still have to wash the muck off your brushes. If you’re a germaphobe (like me), though, it’s comforting to know that your bristles aren’t crawling with nasties when you prettify your eyelids each morning.
