Kristen Stewart: a bite-size history
From becoming a vampire to fighting underwater monsters, she’s had a lot on. Consider this your official K-Stew cheat sheet
1999
THE THIRTEENTH YEAR
Stewart was scouted at a school play aged eight, and her first-ever role, in a film about a teenage merman, involved zero lines and a white polo-neck. You can stream it now on Disney+. She’s one of the kids queuing for the water fountain in the school corridor.
2002
PANIC ROOM
There aren’t many 12-year-olds who get to work with Jodie Foster and Jared Leto. This jumpy psychological thriller, about a mother and daughter whose house is invaded by burglars, gave us nightmares for weeks.
2007
INTO THE WILD
Nine projects later and Stewart starred alongside Emile Hirsch and Vince Vaughn in this awardwinning adaptation of Christopher McCandless’s story (in which a graduate hitchhikes to Alaska to live there). Stewart played Tracy Tatro, a teenager who meets the nomad in Slab City during his journey across America.
2008
TWILIGHT
Ah, the film that had us all swearing allegiance to Team Edward or Jacob. Stewart played Bella, a high-schooler torn between a vampire and a werewolf. Four more films followed, but we were most interested in the off-screen love saga between Stewart and co-star Robert Pattinson.
2012
SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN
This came out the year that Twilight finished, but sadly the all-star cast (Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth) didn’t equate to stellar reviews. There was also the delicate matter of those photos of K-Stew kissing the director...
2014
STILL ALICE
Stewart played Lydia, daughter of Dr Alice Howland (Julianne Moore), a 50-year-old with early onset Alzheimer’s. Heartbreaking, but beautiful.
2019
CHARLIE’S ANGELS
The one where Stewart was a total badass. A feminist reimagining of the 2000 film that aimed to be more inclusive than ever before. Stewart said she was “really proud” of the film. Excellent soundtrack, too.
2020
UNDERWATER
Someone tick horror movie off the check list. Stewart fought deadly ocean creatures as the impressive skinhead Norah Price, after water infiltrated her drilling station miles underwater. A classic tale.

HAPPIEST SEASON
There’s a new festive film in town. Abby (Stewart) plans to propose to her girlfriend over Christmas, but discovers she hasn’t come out to her family yet. We’ll be watching with a Baileys and a large box of biscuits. You? Happiest Season (left), in cinemas 27th November
