CANDYLAND STUDIOS, DEVON
USP + Has a recording suite
What?
In the heart of north Devon, this bohemian escape will stay with you long after you’ve headed home. At its heart is a huge, light-filled communal room with wood floors (and ceiling), comfy leather sofas, a grand piano and guitars on the walls.
We love it because…
It’s an eccentric home-from-home. Dinners that are cooked in the white-panelled kitchen can be eaten at the long wooden picnic table beneath paper lanterns. When it comes to sleeping, there are three bedrooms and a couple of bunks in a snug off the hallway. Candyland’s happy to host hen parties, and if you need more space, the Tractor Shed, just opposite, sleeps six. Shelves are full of books, floorboards creak, paintwork peels – but both abodes are characterful and surrounded by fields, where you’re encouraged to light a campfire, toast marshmallows and drink wine into the night.
Don’t leave without…
Pretending you’re Mariah Carey and laying down a track in the on-site recording studio. With owner Alex’s assistance (he can be hired by the hour for tech support), you can sing and play instruments (OK, a triangle) to create a group single. Amazing.
