Sadly, the answer is likely to be “no”: over 200,000 tonnes of sanitary-product waste is produced every year in the UK,* with 30% ending up in our waterways and 56% in landfill. Although brilliant brands like Thinx (washable period-proof underwear), Ohne (organic cotton tampons) and Saalt (reusable menstrual cups) have made strides towards correcting those scary numbers, there’s still never been a flushable, biodegrada­ble sanitary towel that is safe for the environmen­t. Step forward Planera, whose pads contain no plastic and break down like normal loo roll. Good news for the planet. Period.
