Candi Grl Carlin Quad Roller Skates, £99.95 at Oli’s Skate Shop

I hadn’t rollerskated since my Rollerworld trips aged 16, and these retro-looking quads were the perfect beginner skates to ease me back in. They were really comfortable, and – so far – easy to break in. I glided and turned smoothly, and the padding around the ankles felt super-supportive. Oh, and the teal shade? I’m in love. Sophie, Social Media Manager

Moxi Rainbow Rider Quad Roller Skates, from £99.99 at Slick Willie’s

I gasped like a kid on Christmas morning when I opened the box and saw these skates. The tongue is designed like a cloud, and the laces are rainbow-striped – perfect for the ‘gram. The sturdy wheels and toe stoppers made me feel secure on the pavement, too. Maddy, Acting Shopping Editor

Rookie Artistic Roller Skates, from £89.99 at Slick Willie’s

As soon as I put these on, memories of my roller-disco days came flooding back. The synthetic padding and sponged tongue were so comfy, and I felt no aches, despite wearing them for over an hour. I love the classic design, but if you’re precious about keeping them in tip-top condition, white probably isn’t the colour for you. Fiona, Snapchat Editor

Rio Roller Rose Quad Roller Skates, from £99.99 at Slick Willie’s

I’d been excited to try rollerskating for ages – these grown-up gold skates just sealed the deal. Someone even stopped me so they could take a photo of them! I was expecting to fall immediately, but felt stable thanks to the comfy padding inside and strong, sturdy ankle support. Sophie L, Bookings Editor

Chaya Melrose Quad Roller Skates, from £84.99 at Slick Willie’s

Their bright white, teal and lilac design made me feel a little more “seven-year-old girl” than “Venice Beach chic”, but these skates felt robust enough to keep me safe when I inevitably tumbled. They have a comfortable, supportive fit around the ankle and sturdy wheels underneath to provide a very smooth ride. Cat, Features Editor

Impala Pink Tartan Rollerskates, around £94.72

These are super-comfy and offer great ankle support. If you’re more advanced and interested in trying tricks, these might not be the best skates for you, as the toe stops are bolt-on (as opposed to adjustable), and they’re really designed for cruising rather than prolonged, high-impact use.
