THE OFFICE then and now

It’s been 20 years since David Brent and co first hit our screens. Here’s what the cast are doing now…

-

MACKENZIE CROOK

(GARETH KEENAN) Remind me? With his bowl cut and too-big suit, Gareth was the office dork, desperate to be David Brent’s right-hand man. Best moment: When he said, “I was just wondering, will there ever be a boy born who can swim faster than a shark?” What’s he been up to since?

He’s made an international name for himself in Pirates Of The Caribbean and Game Of Thrones.

LUCY DAVIS

(DAWN TINSLEY) Remind me? She was the receptionist at Wernham Hogg, secretly in love with Tim but engaged to Lee. Best moment: When she rushed back to the Christmas party to kiss Tim. What’s she been up to since? She’s had roles in Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina and Wonder Woman, and is a bit of a big deal on Instagram.

RICKY GERVAIS

(DAVID BRENT)

Remind me? David Brent: motivational speaker, business leader, impressionist, musician. What more of a reminder could you need?

Best moment: The iconic dance scene that became synonymous with the name David Brent. What’s he been up to since?

Gervais is now a legit household name, both here and in the US. He’s hosted the Golden Globes and created and starred in award-winning series After Life.

RALPH INESON

(CHRIS “FINCHY” FINCH)

Remind me? The foulmouthed, misogynistic sales rep we all loved to hate. Best moment: When his obscene voicemail to David Brent was played on loudspeaker while the latter was in a meeting with his boss. What’s he been up to since? He’s starred in Harry

Potter and Game Of Thrones.

MARTIN FREEMAN

(TIM CANTERBURY) Remind me? Freeman played self-deprecating Tim, who was hopelessly in love with Dawn on reception. Best moment: When he quits during a training session and asks Dawn on a date in front of the office. What’s he been up to since? From The Hobbit and Sherlock to Black Panther, Freeman’s pretty sought-after these days.
