the DIGITAL NOMAD

-

What? If the idea of working remotely from your laptop and not being confined to an office floats your boat, the digital nomad lifestyle could be for you. Industries that lend themselves well to this career path include tech, writing, creative and online-based roles.

“Designers, developers, accountants, data analysts, project managers and consultants could all thrive in a remote-working situation,” says Hunter. Of course, it’s likely that you’ll need to be freelance or self-employed for this to work – and again, you’ll need to check the visa requirements of your desired country. How? There are some crucial things to consider if you want to travel and work, says Hunter. “Will you have access to everything you need – for example, high-speed internet?”

Also, aim to have two to three months’ wages saved in case of emergency.

Where? If Barbados

takes your fancy (like, duh), we’ve got good news. It’s offering a “Barbados Welcome Stamp” – a visa for remote workers that lasts a year. You need to expect to earn around £35,000 over 12 months, and there’s a £1,400 fee to apply.

Croatia’s new digital nomad visa also lasts for a year and requires proof of remote work, either for a foreign company or yourself, plus either bank statements or proof of income that shows you’ll be earning at least around £1,900 a month.

“Check you’ll have the internet!”
