Poet’. Out­liv­ing his friend by 20 years, he died in 1957. Gur­ney’s con­sid­er­able tal­ents as man­i­fested in his pow­er­ful po­etry and beau­ti­ful com­po­si­tions were to not be fully ap­pre­ci­ated un­til af­ter his death, aged 47, but both Glouces­ter­shire lads are now hon­oured with their own so­ci­eties and fol­low­ing – a tes­ti­mony to the fel­low­ship that flour­ished on the banks of the Sev­ern.
