Sitting pretty in an old stone cottage is beloved Cotswolds stalwart Sue Parkinson, a stylish store full of gorgeous clothing and homeware. We caught up with Sue to get the full story… what inspired you To open sue parkinson? My daughter Sally and I love interiors and wanted to offer an edit that reflects our own taste rather than the formulaic style available on the high street. I opened Sue Parkinson in 1973, initially selling clothing and gifts, but soon added a line of eclectic pieces for the home, too.
who visits your shop? our customers are often shopping for gifts or they are working on a
renovation and want to source their furniture, lighting, mirrors, etc. our clients’ style is fun and colourful. they like a mix of classic pieces and playful decor to give their home plenty of personality. are There any unique Touches
To your shop? the stores – located in broadway and Cirencester – are all very different, each with their own quirks. being family run means we are able to react quickly to trends and what our customers want, as well as allowing us to build relationships that have lasted years and years – a lot of our staff are actually former shoppers! what makes your cotswolds location so special? We are in a thriving local community, as well as a popular tourist destination. the Cotswolds has never lost its charm – it’s still full of stone cottages, little boutiques and cafés.
any favourite products? our range of contemporary danish pieces from Skagerak, handmade South african ceramics from Wonki Ware, artisan pieces from nkuku, Scandinavian soft furnishings from Linum and branche d’olive’s French home fragrances.
any exciting plans? We have recently relaunched our website. It now has a strong focus on interactivity so our online customers can enjoy the same personal touch that they would get if they were shopping in one of our stores.
