COUNTRY PASSION
Tabitha enjoys the calming effect horse riding has on her
Cotswolds. The surroundings are truly beautiful. Jack is an ex-racehorse that I’ve taken in;
Dora is a traditional Irish Cob.
It’s not just the physical act of riding that gives me headspace, its so much more than that. Being around my horses has such a calming effect on my mood. I see it as a form of meditation. I love to go out early in the mornings, and just sit with them in the meadow. I really believe that they can see into our world and, through their eyes, we see into theirs. If I’m feeling stressed they can pick it up straight away; they won’t let me near them unless I’m fully present in the moment – a good incentive to put my phone away and just relax.
Time with my horses is everything in terms of achieving a perfect work/ life balance. As well as allowing time for mindfulness in nature, it offers other positives: fitness (it’s great for toning), social and leadership skills, to name just a few. They’re completely dependent on me, so come rain or shine, I’m out there caring for them. It’s so rewarding.
If formal riding lessons aren’t for you, don’t be put off – I’d recommend looking into natural horsemanship. They’re such wonderful animals. Start by building a relationship with them and the rest will naturally follow. My horses challenge me and help me grow every day, I couldn’t imagine my life without them now.
