TO mark the centenary of Armistice Day on November 11, the Royal British Legion is running the Paint a Poppy Challenge, a joint project with the SAA, ‘the UK’S largest art community’ with 43,000 members. Both professional and amateur artists are invited to paint a poppy and make a donation.
To date, there have been 5,000 submissions (including one by Trevor Staveley, left) with more than £7,000 raised for the charity, which provides financial, social and emotional support to members and veterans of the British Armed Forces, their families and dependants.
Entries will feature in an exhibition at Art Materials Live at Birmingham’s NEC on November 1–4, but the challenge remains open to entries until December 31. Visit www.saa.co.uk/info/poppy-challenge for details.
