Weather report

The Caribbean region spans a million square miles with some 700 islands. At least 70% of the area was unaffected by last year’s hurricanes, but islands still in recovery include the British Virgin Islands, Barbuda and Puerto Rico, which are all in the Leeward Islands and, therefore, within the traditional hurricane belt.

The Windward Islands in the south, which include Barbados, St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines, were all unaffected.
