Our farming future
IMUST take Agromenes to task for implying that most farmers aren’t aware of impending changes to agricultural support post-brexit (November 28). With a large proportion of the budget currently going to a minority of farmers, there’s an urgent need for change and I think that minority will be more worried than the rest of us.
My personal worry is Agromenes’s praise of those expanding into pigs and poultry, animals that eat cereals and are overwhelmingly housed in sheds on concrete. Compare this to an animal grazing on grass—it may produce more methane per kilo of meat, but it hasn’t incurred a massive input of fossil fuel. David Robinson, Carmarthenshire
