Bright lights, big city
IWAS dismayed to read of the Illuminated River installation (Town & Country, December 12/19, 2018). In these days when we desperately need to be preserving the world’s dwindling resources, not to mention decreasing light pollution for the sake of the mental health of humanity and the well-being of wildlife, it’s astonishing that this decade-long, energy-burning installation has received planning permission. Where is the joined-up thinking?
Apparently, it will offer ‘a glimpse into our city’s future’; well, it will certainly contribute to a darkening prospect for our children and grandchildren. Dr Maria Purves, by email
