Titsey Place, Titsey Hill, near Oxted, Surrey RH8 0SD

August 14, 1pm–5pm. £4.50, children £1, plants for sale, dogs welcome. As thousands of people race—or crawl—along the M25 on the Surrey/kent border, they are mostly unaware that, overlooking the motorway from an elevated position on the North Downs, is one of the most impressive house-and-garden combinations inside the M25: Titsey Place. The elegant house and its surrounding gardens command spectacular views south. The walled garden was restored in 1996 and, at this time of year, the standard of its re-creation of a busy working Victorian garden is evident. Equally impressive is the descending panorama of lawns, lakes, mature trees and Jubilee rose garden that is presented from the terraces. Visit www.ngs.org.uk
