The English Gothic Revival leanings of Sir George Gilbert Scott are evident at Grade Ii-listed The Old Rectory at Fillingham, near Gainsborough, which he enlarged in 1853; it was originally built in the 1700s. Opposite the village church, it has eight bedrooms, original stone windows, Gothic arched doors and hallways, a separate stable block, a paddock, a walled garden and an outdoor swimming pool. The open fireplaces are similar to those Scott designed for the Houses of Parliament. Humberts (0115–950 5444)

When you build a house in woodland, you expect privacy, so you may as well make all your external walls out of glass. The plot for Ewen Tree House, outside the village of Ewen, not far from Kemble, offers an opportunity to own a Paragraph 55 development—named for the clause in planning policy allowing homes of exceptional design to be built in rural areas. It comes with full planning approval for a five-bedroom, 4,200sq ft home designed by Hawkes Architecture. Savills (01285 627550)
