Cling on to summer

Cling on to summer with a glass of this cracking value Provence rosé. Made by the négociant Castel Frères, the wine is delicately coloured and scented with tart redcurrant and strawberry fruit, tangy and juicy in character, but also elegant with fresh acidity.

Apricot pastries

Codorníu, Cuvée Barcelona 1872 Cava Brut, Penedès, Spain NV. £12, Ocado, alc 11.5%

Brilliant value, this light and fresh Cava blends Macabeu, Xarel·lo and Parellada. Appealing aromatics: apricot pastries, lemon tart and a creamy yeastiness. Lifted citrus on the palate, with nutty notes. Lovely aperitif style.

Elegant and pillow-soft

Pio Cesare, Piodilei, Langhe, Piedmont, Italy 2018. £38, Petersham Cellar, alc 14% Barrique-aged Chardonnay from vines grown at the Il Bricco estate in Barbaresco. Elegant and pillow-soft, it has good acidic structure supporting juicy baked apple, orange peel, stone fruits, melon and spices. Slightly saline with a lovely lemony finish.
