Where is your favourite place in Britain?

My house in Ripley, Surrey. I’ve got a farm there, part of the cottage is 16th century and my wife has created a wonderful garden What is your favourite building?

I’m rather a fan of Gothic cathedrals, so I’ll say Ely or Wells. They were huge endeavours

What’s your favourite book?

I’ve done a lot of business in Russia, so Doctor Zhivago

Favourite food?

Spaghetti alle vongole. I also adore bacon and eggs, although I don’t treat myself to them too often

Alternative career?

I think I probably would have been an actor
