TODAY (December 1), Glyndebourne in East Sussex launches a new streaming service—glyndebourne Encore—giving access to the opera company’s world-class productions, which have been filmed since 2002. The service is in part inspired by the success of last year’s digital Glyndebourne Festival, which received more than 850,000 views.
‘Glyndebourne Encore is a response to that audience demand,’ explains artistic director Stephen Langridge. ‘Every month, we’ll be delving deep into an individual opera to offer revealing insights and interviews to help people get the most out of every opera.’
Immediately available is Giulio Cesare, Saul, Billy Budd, Così fan tutte, Die Zauberflöte, Vanessa, Rusalka, Don Giovanni, Le nozze di Figaro and others, with more added throughout the year; audio recordings from the Glyndebourne label include a 1964 production of Idomeneo featuring a young Pavarotti.
An annual subscription costs £79.99, or £59.99 for Glyndebourne Members (www.glyndebourne.com/ encore).
