This photograph is simply identified as ‘Sussex Cottages’. The presence of the car and the slightly bored-looking driver, wearing a uniform and a peaked cap, parked outside the door of such modest houses is rather surprising. The car’s numberplate reveals that it is visiting from Stanmore in north London.
