A blot on the landscape?
YOU show Park Farm, Raby, Co Durham, of 1755, designed by James Paine and Daniel Garrett (‘Agricultural improvement’, March 16)—but who ruined it? Surely even lovers of telegraph poles and wires must agree that they add absolutely nothing to the photograph or to the view. Would Eric Ravilious have painted this? I think not. Why must restoration so often ignore the damage to the quality of the landscape that poles and wires can do?
