FURTHER to the fogbow (Letters, March 30), here is an icebow, photograph­ed from the path below Lindisfarn­e Castle on Holy Island. The sun was arcing down over the snow-blanketed Cheviots, glimpsed before the cloud drifted eastwards. Ice crystals refracted the low-angled sunlight to create a halo over Holy Island harbour, priory, church and village. I wondered how the monks and saints of earlier centuries would have interprete­d it—perhaps as a sign of blessing?
