A few of my favourite things

Born in Cheshire in 1955, the now cricket commentator is one of the all-time greats of the sport. A member of the House of Lords, he lives in North Yorkshire with his wife, Kathy, and their three Jack Russells, Pinot, Henley and Jacki-boy, and a labrador, Missy. He has teamed up with British Game Assurance to host a clay-shooting challenge on July 1 at the Royal Berkshire Shooting School, to raise funds to help safeguard the future of shooting (020–3727 5204; events@britishgameassurance.co.uk).

My Mercedes-benz G wagon is simply the best car I’ve ever driven. I love it and I am hoping we can get the new one ordered soon, too. This great car is solid, distinctive and—the reason the special forces and military use it—tough, but very fast. I have the Mercedes-amg G 63 in blue—my favourite colour, as you can see (www.mercedes-amg.com).

My shepherd’s hut was a present from my wife for my 60th birthday and is custom-designed by Kevin and Pennie at The Yorkshire Hut Company. It is my man cave and where I keep all my fishing equipment, flies, rods, reels and all my fishing clothing. There are special compartments for everything. It is my inner sanctum, with a woodburning stove, Sky television, wine and whisky—all favourite things—inside (01904 651085; www.theyorkshirehutcompany.com).

My IWC limited-edition Tribute To Calypso was a birthday present from my wife about 10 years ago. It is unique: only 2,500 were ever made, with each featuring an original piece of wood on the reverse, taken from the Calypso, a boat belonging to Jacques-yves Cousteau (www.iwc.com).
