Sow successional salads

-

The key to successful salad growing throughout the summer months is to sow little and often. There are so many variants on the lettuce theme nowadays that the whole thing becomes a pleasant exercise in harmless novelty. Make a level seedbed in the usual way. Set a line and draw out a shallow drill: the butt end of a cane will do the job. If the weather has been dry, run some water from a can along the bottom of the drill and let it settle. Sow a couple of yards of your chosen lettuce. Repeat in orderly fashion every three weeks. SCD
