The way we were Photographs from the Country Life archive
1940September Published 7 The kitchen at Hilles House, Gloucestershire, designed by the disciple of William Morris and Philip Webb, Detmar Blow, in 1913. For a time, the Blows ate with their servants in this room, albeit at their own table. To mutual relief, it didn’t last. The bread, eggs and blunderbuss show that the shot has been carefully staged. The floor is linoleum.
